Scottish Vocational Qualification (SVQ)

What will I achieve?

Each apprentice is required to achieve a Level 2 or 3 SVQ from a suite of Horticulture Qualifications; Horticulture, Production Horticulture, Landscaping, Green keeping, Sports Turf or Parks, Gardens and Green Spaces.

How will this qualification delivered?

Like most of our qualifications this programme is delivered completely in the work-place. Visits will generally be on a monthly basis and you need to plan for around a day a month worth of training time. This doesn't have to be a whole day in one go and it isn't all 'off the tools'.

Who is this qualification aimed at?

There are multiple pathways in the Horticulture Framework so dependant on which one you chose it would suit various roles; Gardener, Landscaper, Nursery Worker, Fruit and Vegetable Production Worker, Machinery Operator, Greenkeeper, Groundsperson, Gravedigger, Gardener, Interior Landscape Designer, Parks Officers, Deputy Head Green Keeper/Grounds Person, Designer or Horticulture Technician/Specialist

Scottish qualifications are funded by Skills Development Scotland (SDS).

Is this part of an apprenticeship (MA) framework?

Yes. In addition to the main qualification to the left you will also complete core skills including; Communication, Working with Others, Problem Solving, ICT and Numeracy. You will also work towards a First Aid qualification and a occupationally relevant course - all as part of the framework

What will it cost me?

We are quite good at finding funding streams for most situations which means we can deliver most of our products at a reduced rate or even for no cash investment, in some instances. Get in touch to find out what we can do based on your circumstances.

What could this qualification lead to?

After completing this qualification you could progress on to a Level 3 Horticulture Qualification or even a more generic qualification in Team Leading, Management or Customer Services.

What will it cost me?

For individuals aged 16-19 there will be no cash investment required, in fact if you are an employer we may be able to get you a grant of up to £4,500!

How will I choose the right person?

We offer a free of charge recruitment service to ensure you get the right person – worth approximately £2,500 and the vast majority of our apprentices carry on working with their employers after the programme finishes.
